Today was fun! We met Grandma Ann's friend Meredith and her daughter Caroline for lunch at Word of Mouth (yummy!) then came back to Grandma Ann's house for chatting and playing, and a nap for Lauren.
The last time we (Lauren and I and Grace in utero) were in Florida I got to meet a brand new Caroline at the hospital. She was 1 day old! She only weighed 4 lbs and 5 oz. By far the smallest baby I've ever held, but look at her now sitting next to Lauren. She's adorable, with that red hair and big blue eyes. We'll be hanging out more for play dates while we're in town.

I noticed there aren't many pics of Grace with her eyes open. So here's a 10 minute video of her crying... just kidding. It's just a few seconds of her playing in the bouncy seat.

From Jace: Since becoming homeless with the sale of our old place on
Friday, I'm staying with friends till we close on our new house this
week. George's place here in the south loop neighborhood has some
awesome lake and museum campus views. Along the lake, you can see The
Field Museum, and the Shedd Aquarium. Columbia College is the nearby building wrapped in gray and orange. Near the bottom, you can see an Orange Line train passing by.

Please excuse the informal, taken with a flash, photo. I'd have like to have gotten a nice portrait of Grace for her one month posting, but it was not meant to be. We'll try to do better next month.
Grace has her 4 week checkup before we left for Florida. Here are her stats...
Weight: 11 lbs 11.5 oz
Height: 22 in
Both put her in the 95% for girls her age.

Dear Grandma Saundra,
I think I'm taking after you already...turns out I'm very warm natured.
It's so hot here in Florida that I'm sweaty a lot. As a result, I often choose not to wear any clothes - but only when I'm in the privacy of Grandma Ann's house. If I thought that Oklahoma would be any cooler, I'd be on the first airplane to see you. I bet you keep your air conditioning turned to a lower temperature!
Love, Grace

We got a ride from Papa to Midway airport to catch our flight to Sarasota. Just us 4 girls. A nice dad had to help me completely disassemble the stroller to put it through security, since the security guard insisted that I couldn't wheel it through the side gate where he had just let the woman in front of me push her double stroller. At that point I had Grace out of the car seat and in my arms. So I let the nice dad take everything off while his wife and children and my mom and Lauren sat on the other side and watched. But our country is still safe - no airplanes were highjacked, so I shouldn't complain ;)
Grace in the stroller, also on the moving walkway...
Lauren in her own seat on the airplane. They grow up so fast.

Back home again in Indiana. Here's our first family portrait since becoming a foursome. We are out front of the Indiana house before heading to a family reunion. Would you believe that I helped plant the trees behind us when I was younger. They were just 12" tall saplings!

We went to Kid Snips to get Lauren a first real haircut. We're going to a family reunion this weekend and then to Florida, so it was time for some shorter bangs and a better look.
Sandy at Kid Snips did a great job keeping Lauren still when she trimmed her bangs. And we only had full blown tears once...accompanied with "I want Grandma!" The trip cost too much money...Grandma and I found several toys and hairclips to buy along with the cost of the cut ($20) and the too generous tip I left.
My overall feelings: satisfactory cut, but low on style. Stylists are very fast, very good with the kids to keep the tears to a minimum. The car seats, movie to watch and wall to wall toys along with balloons make it easy to keep your kid distracted. I'll probably go back twice a year or so and do trimming on my own in between.

Oh the privileges of being the oldest child...
Daddy took Lauren out to breakfast. No, she did not have her own coffee, but she did get to enjoy her water in a coffee cup "like mommy's."

Today Grace had her 2 weeks checkup at the Dr's office. She astounded the doctor with her weight gain. I'll admit that I was surprised too, but I guess I shouldn't have been. Lauren was quite the eater when she was a newborn. So let's compare...I suppose we'll be comparing Lauren and Grace to each other their whole lives...
Lauren through 2 weeks:
2 weeks: 9 lbs 13 oz and 21.25 in.
6 days: 8 lbs 8 oz
3 days: 7 lb 13 oz
birth: 8 lb 12 oz and 21 in.
Grace through 2 weeks:
2 weeks: 9 lbs 12 oz and 21.75 in.
5 days: 8 lbs 5 oz
3 days: 8 lb 0 oz
birth: 8 lb 10 oz and 21.5 in.
