Our friends Heather and Steve wanted to meet us for dinner on Saturday.  Our first impulse was to meet them at The Boundary, our favorite kid-friendly restraunt in our neighborhood.  But we decided to be a bit more adventurous, and see if we could manage to get Lauren through a full meal at Between Boutique Cafe and Lounge.  Between is just a block from our house and has gained some notariety lately because its executive chef is one of the remaining contestants on the TV show "Top Chef."  Liz and I went there on a date night about six months ago, and were really impressed, so it's been fun to see this chef get some just recognition.

Boutique is considerably more up-scale than your typical highchair-weilding joint, so we called ahead to see how they'd feel about bringing a toddler in for early dinner service.  They were pretty cool with the idea.  They didn't have highchairs, but were really accomodating to help us attach our booster seat to one.  Lauren loves hard-driving musical beats, so she got a kick out of the music.

The food was great.  Early service (6-7pm) on Fridays and Saturdays offers a special "Three for $30" which is a great porition for two people (regular price would be about $50).  The four of us (and Lauren) shared six plates, including spicy Mantou burgers and Lobster Trifecta, and came away perfectly full.

I doubt Between wants to start pitching themselves as "kid friendly" anytime soon, but we certainly made-out okay.  Time flew, and we ended-up eating till after 8:30, so Lauren was a real trooper for hanging out so far past her bedtime.
