On our way to see Grandma and Grandpa in Oklahoma. Found the Chicago
Children's Museum in the O'Hare airport terminal. It's awesome!

So many fun things have happened in the past week! You better go back to Aug 16th and start reading from there. We've had a wedding, two birthday parties and the birth of yet another baby girl into our circle of Chicago friends. There are two movies of Lauren that you have to see... Pat The Bunny and Corn Eating. Happy reading!

Charlie responded with enthusiasm to the singing of Happy Birthday and the fabulous cake she was presented with. She liked the icing best. After she had daintily pinched some onto her fingers and they found their way into her mouth, it was all smiles...and one or two tastes of the cake with more abandon! Bravo Charlie, your first birthday was a wonderful party that Lauren enjoyed very much!

The first of two birthday parties today! Lauren and mommy headed up to the north suburbs for some swimming fun with Rachel and her little brother Ian. Lauren enjoyed the pool (thank you God, because she was NOT fond of the recent water experience at our Lake Michigan beach) and even ventured out on her own to walk in water up to her chest. She liked when mommy bounced or drug her through the water and said "swim, swim, swim!" We enjoyed cupcakes and various other snacks (of which Lauren had to try everything, including her first juice box). Rachel looked like a swimming princess in her pretty pink ruffle swimsuit. We hope princess Rachel had fun at her birthday party because we sure did!

Liz's cousin Scott got married to the lovely Brandy this weekend. We enjoyed beautiful weather for their event. Lauren enjoyed the pink lemonade and threw a fit if anyone tried to take her glass away from her. I think the ice was her favorite part. In honor of the family time this week, I though I'd post some pics of my (Liz's) Indiana family members we don't see too often on the blog...
Liz's grandparents; Liz's brother Mike and his girlfriend Cori; Liz's cousin Daniel and his wife Rachel; and of course our family shot (notice Lauren's lemonade pucker!)

Our friends Jay and Mollie welcomed Elizabeth Bruce into the world on Aug 16th at 12:33 am. They will be calling her Elle. She was 7lbs 9 oz and perfect in every way!

In addition to chowing down on her own ear of corn (all the missing corn off the ear is what Lauren ate...she pretty much finished off the whole ear on her own!) Lauren also demonstrates her love for "Papa" and "Grandma" and the ability to correctly identify the purpose of a camera (which takes a "picture"). Mmmmm, corn.

While here in Indiana, Lauren gets to enjoy some Indiana stuff. Eating corn, enjoying a camp fire and going for a wagon ride among other things.

Why, you might ask, does her hair look so messy in the corn picture? Just imagine how your hair would look after you rubbed a corn cob back and forth over it!

We found out that the Indiana State Fair is the second largest in the country (not sure what they are measuring by - we certainly have lots of pigs). We are second only to Texas, but then again, everything is bigger in Texas, except pigs. Indiana has the worlds largest boar - we saw him and he weighs over 1,100 pounds.
The Mouse family had a great time taking it all in. We had the VIP experience all the way. See if you can follow this...Liz's brother Mike's girlfriend's parents work at the fair so we got free tickets and a they got out a baby duck and a baby rabbit just for Lauren to pet (video coming soon). That's her Papa (grandpa Clark) holding her while she pets the babies - she loves her Papa and her Grandma. We are so excited that she says both "papa" and "grandma" now.

Please enjoy these lovely pictures of Lauren. A neighbor of ours has quite a green thumb and he employs it by organizing the yearly Earth Day festivities at the park across the street. His flower beds have been putting out an array of blooms the entire summer. It's a great place to 'plant' Lauren for some photos.

And that complaint about the air show...
It must be this upcoming weekend since all day there have been jets screaming over the city. In addition to the loud sounds of their engines, the rumble sets off car alarms. Lauren has not been having very good naps today. Can you imagine a swath of crying kids all across downtown Chicago whose naps have been interrupted? I think parents should complain. As soon as I find out who to complain to, I'll let you know.

Lauren woke up from her nap this morning (or maybe she was woken up by the gas company trucks) and so we went outside on the porch to investigate. She was still kinda sleepy so she laid down with her blanket and sippy and tried to rest some more - not really possible with a cement truck and several delivery trucks working nearby.

Here's a video of it all:

Lauren and mommy were both dressed nicely for church this morning. After the photo session, Lauren grabbed her purse and headed out the door. She didn't want to be late for playing with her friends in the nursery.

It was a beautiful weekend in Chicago. The weather was cool in the morning and evening and with a hint of fall. The daytime was sunny but pleasant so the Mouse family enjoyed dining out on the porch with several friends over the weekend! Mmmm ribs! Lauren likes it when her high chair travels outside for a change of scene.

Lauren is showing some promise as a budding climber. She recently got onto the ottoman and was reaching up for the fireplace mantel. I can only imagine that shelves and chairs are next. Oh boy (read with sarcasm). She is still getting the hang of walking fast (I guess we can call it running) and falls down from time to time. The other morning she wiped out on the deck and bruised her top lip. I can't wait for the bumps and bruises that climbing will bring (read with sarcasm).

We have a light weight stroller for Lauren that we keep in the car for quick trips. It's one of the fold up, umbrella strollers. Anyway, one day it made it's way into the house and Lauren tried to push it around. She seemed really intent and was slightly frustrated that the handles were up so high and that it was too heavy for her to push very far. She also showed some interest in putting toys in the seat of the stroller. So we all took a trip over to Kmart and picked out a toy stoller for Lauren. She loves pushing it around and even showed us a new skill...walking backwards. She sometimes puts her baby or her doll in the stroller but you are just as likely to find a fork, a book, or an empty snack cup. Of course it's just one more large loud toy that freaks out Indy if Lauren pushes it too close to where he is sleeping. We have noticed that he spends most of his time napping up on the couch these days :)

I finally got my act together and assembled the following in the same place and time: Lauren, two tiny ponytail holders, two decorative barrettes, a hair brush. The result: pigtails, and only a few moments of frustration from Lauren when she couldn't figure out why her head was being held still by mommy clinging to a section of her hair. Once they were in, Lauren didn't seem to mind them at all and they stayed in for three hours...until I took them out for her nap. I think they highlight her face in all its cute plumpness!

Here's a few more views...

Lauren got in some reading and puppy gazing at the same time by reading the Greyhounds Only newsletter.

Lauren had a great time today in her pool.  It's been warm her, so the water was toasty warm and inviting enough for her to sit down.
