Lauren got mail today. It was her first valentine. Her friend Charlotte (Charlie) sent it to her. She was pretty impressed. She examined every inch of it and applauds Charlie's choice of the Hello Kitty design. She has a baby BFF!

We haven't posted any pictures of Lauren sleeping in a while. She used to be asleep for over 50% of the pictures those first few months. Now she likes to sleep on her tummy. Usually she is stretched out under her blankie, but now that she can crawl, she moves around a bit and...well...here's a recent result. She's having a hard time falling asleep for naps.

I had the privilege of being one of the hostesses for my friend Colleen's baby shower. I got to make a diaper cake and a real cake. Colleen had many wonderful friends and family in attendance. It was a fun time. Oh and she got some really cute baby items for her little girl, due at the end of February!

Lauren has become very engrossed in playing with her toys. She likes to pull up on the toy box (that tipped over empty thing behind her!) and get them all out. She can even entertain herself for a little while before she starts looking around or calling out for mom or dad. Christmas came at the perfect age for her...it has been great that so many fun toys came to Lauren from friends and family!

...and loves it! It's hard to know what she liked more -- the taste, or the ability to feed herself. She cried mercilessly when we finally took the tray away from her.
Afterward, Lauren went on an afternoon stroll with daddy and Indy. It was unusually warm in Chicago -- in the 60's. It was nice to be able to stroll the city streets. Lauren has outgrown the baby bjorn and has graduated up to her baby backpack full-time. We all enjoyed the trek.

For Christmas, Lauren got a Mickey Mouse CD from her Aunt Mara. There is a song on there called Disco Mickey that Lauren's Uncle Andy (Liz's brother) remembers from their childhood (Liz remembers it too). We listened to it today and Lauren got into the groove. She especially liked the CD case!

Lauren turned 8 months old today. Here she is with her heifer...getting bigger, getting more hair. She has her first cold (nose is runny - even in this picture), but she is eating and sleeping just fine. Her latest developmental feat is trying to crawl. She goes from sitting, to hands and knees to belly flopping on her tummy (followed very closely by crying). She really only moves backwards, especially on hardwood floors. On the carpet, she can accomplish 360 degree turns on her stomach. She likes to stand up holding onto things...mommy, the couch, the ottoman.
