Lauren went on her first business trip/overnight trip. Daddy had two days worth of meetings at a Radisson hotel in Wisconsin so Lauren and mommy went with him for Wednesday day and night. During the day, Lauren and mommy went to the outlet shops and then ordered room service. Lauren got some new things at the Carters outlet, Old Navy and Baby Gap. We picked out a candle for daddy at Yankee Candle company (boy those things sure do smell)! Thursday morning, mommy and Lauren drove back to Chicago. Here's Lauren in a new sleeper from Carters.

Lauren attended her first birthday party this weekend. The occasion was Ian Pogany's first birthday. The "under construction" theme was great. You should have seen the amazing cake decoration of a dump truck. And it tasted great too (mom should know, I had two pieces). Ian got to eat a cupcake all by himself.
Lauren got a construction hat with her name on it. She slept the entire time despite the noise of about 15 kids and the 17 year cicadas.
Here's a great photo of Lauren and her Grandpa Leslie Mouse. Good idea Lauren to keep an eye on him... you never know when he might sneak you backstage at a concert or get you into Wrigleyfield when it's closed. And if you listen closely he might sing you an Elvis song.

Jace's Aunt Linda hand made this blanket for Lauren. It has a double ruffle and a pink ribbon laced through it. Grandma Saundra and Grandpa Leslie brought it to Chicago with them when they came to visit this weekend. We love the blanket - it's SOOO pretty. We're honored that Linda made it by hand for Lauren.
And we had a great time with Grandma and Grandpa Mouse. Lauren had some fussy times, but we all enjoyed the time together with family. Stay tuned for more pictures from the weekend.

The happy day is finally here! Grandma Saundra and Grandpa Leslie arrived on Friday evening to see baby Lauren. Here's the happy grandma holding sleepy Lauren. Jace made us burgers on the grill and we got to eat outside on the patio. It was a nice cool evening. This weekend we also hope to take in the fireworks downtown. We'll see how Lauren responds to that.

Jace and I had our first nights out this week. On Thursday we did what turned out to be a trial run in our neighborhood. Two friends watched Lauren and 6 mo. old Brooks at our house while we and Brook's parents went to dinner at Adobo restaurant up the street. Then on Sunday night, Jace and I drove up to Highland Park to Pogany's house and dropped Lauren off for an evening of fun with Rachel and Ian (2yrs 9mo and 1 yr respectively). Jace and Liz then headed to Ravinia for an evening of fun with adults. We had dinner at the newly renovated restaurant building and then saw two Portuguese singers perform. On both evening the report was that Lauren prefers to be held instead of sleeping in her crib or her car seat (but we already knew that). But she is pretty cute, so I think we might get our friends to sit for us again in the future. Here is a pic of Lauren in her pretty pink dress with mommy (pay no attention to the drool).

Lauren has started to enjoy her swing (a little). Usually in the morning after she's had her second breakfast at about 10am, she will swing contentedly for up to 30 minutes. A few times Lauren has even fallen asleep in her swing and dozed there for an hour. Let me tell you how much mommy loved that (big time). Hopefully she will grow to love her swing even more...maybe in the afternoon too.

Today our doctor confirmed what my tired back and arms had been supposing...we have a humongous baby. Lauren is at the 100% for both height and weight for her age. She weighed in at 12 pounds 14.5 ounces. Her length was 23.5 inches. I was left wondering what happens if your baby goes beyond 100%...do they send an email to the NFL telling them that a potential linebacker will be available in 18 years?

Today Lauren had a bit of a blowout in her diaper. Actually it wasn't all "in" her diaper...which is what I mean by blowout. So I got her clothes off and got her diaper off and as I was giving her a good cleaning when I realized that she wasn't crying. I figured she had relieved herself of pretty much anything that she had in her (given the weight of the diaper). So I took a chance on trying to snap one of those adorable naked baby pics. My parents have the cutest one of me in similar pose on a white pillow (aren't we all risk takers). Lauren let me get about three shots before she started crying. I got her back in a clean diaper and snuggled her up in her favorite outfit - her fleece monkey sleeper and she was happy as a clam.

Time flies -- Lauren celebrated a milestone of one month today! Our little girl is shown here, paying homage to her cowgirl roots. She is pictured here with her Black Angus heifer that we got for Christmas from Greg, Christie, Taylor, and Garrett. We plan to take a new picture with it each month, so we can watch as she grows (thanks Andy and Mara Gieseke for the idea).
Feel free to leave comments for Lauren along the way. Each posting has a "Comments" link at the bottom of it. Just click the link and type away. You don't need an account -- when asked for an Identity, just choose "Anonymous."

The park was pretty busy with other people enjoying the weather, letting their dogs frolic in the dog park, and watching the little-league baseball game. It's nice to have such a vibrant place just a few blocks from our house.
