Today I tried out shoppin' with baby. Lauren and I decided to take it easy since it was just the two of us. I put Lauren in her Baby Bjorn and headed over to the Jewel (yes, the supermarket that is literally across the street). We didn't have to go far, and I only bought some hot dog buns and potato salad, but it was a good first excursion for the two of us. I'll should also note that using the self checkout lane is not only faster, but it greatly reduces the number of people who will talk to you about your baby.

Clark got a custom-made "Summer Baby Tour" shirt from the t-shirt deli in our neighborhood. It matches Ann's shirt and shows the dates of the Tucson and Chicago baby tour.
Afterward, Ann and Clark left for Indianapolis. After a few days there, they'll head out to Tucson for the birth of baby Zoe!
The reception was also very nice. The hall was decorated in roses and other flowers, and the tables matched the rest of the colors from the wedding.
The wedding photographer got a good picture of the three of us in our matching attire -- we can't wait to see it.

Our mini Mouse got dressed in her Minnie Mouse outfit today. We realized we needed to get her in it before she outgrows it. Born at 8 lb 12 oz, she got down to 7 13 and then worked up to 8 8 at 5 days old and then blew us away at 2 weeks old by weighing in at 9 13. This means she is growing out of the newborn clothes pretty fast. Her Minnie Mouse outfit fits more like a cat suit. With the sleek zipper and button closure at the top, I think she looks like a scuba diver or race car driver. Her Minnie Mouse outfit and basket are more gifts from the Grandma Ann and Grandpa Clark Disney treasure trove. What more could a Mouse girl want?

Happy First Birthday Sophie!
Since we couldn't be there in Tucson to celebrate with Sophie, we held a party here in Chicago in her honor.

Today Lauren tried out her play gym. The play gym was a gift from her Grandma and Grandpa Mouse. I think she really likes it! She spent 15 minutes of tummy time listening to Mozart and watching the lights in the flowers. Tummy time lets her increase her strength of pushing up on her hands and lifting and turning her head. She also gets to practice listening and turning toward the sound of mommy's voice. Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Mouse!

Yesterday Lauren decided to wear her Aristocats outfit. She got the outfit from her Grandma Ann and Grandpa Clark who live a few hours from Disney World. Lauren's mom had an Aristocat stuffed toy from Disney World when she was a little girl. Lauren posed for the camera with her collection of Aristocats.

Lauren has a big fur brother, Indy the retired racing greyhound. Indy wrote about Lauren on his website today so we thought we'd give him a shout out. Indy's WebsiteIndy and Lauren get along really well. Basically she doesn't know he exists yet and he pretty much ignores her aside from the occasional sniff.

Since Lauren lost her umbilical cord, she can now have a big-girl bath. Her experience was like that of most newborns -- she cried her way through it. (Maybe is was the image of her daddy sticking his toungue out like a big dope.) But once the bath was done, she started to settle down once Liz started putting lotion on. But by the time Jace got her clothes back on, she was totally conked out and went straight the crib.

While at the park, we talked with two other neighbors. As it turns out, the park is about to get a $300K overhaul! The playground is already pretty big (about 30'x60'). It was installed about about five years ago and is mainly setup for 5-8 year olds and includes a little bit of handicap accessibility. But the new massively expanded playground (about 90'x30') will have areas for young toddlers and
There is also talk of a new water play feature to replace the current one, but it would require another $20K in donations from residents. I'm not sure that's going to happen, but they are going to install a timer at any rate -- the current play area runs 24 hours a day!
On the way home, Ann snapped our picture from the upper deck.

Lauren has had a great first day at home. On the doctor's advice, we've started giving her an extra 3/4 oz of formula to supplement every-other feeding with Liz. She gulped her first one down in about 10 seconds! Then she was up for a test of the vibrating baby seat that the Pogany's gave us -- she loved it! Jace rocked her for a while, where she quickly fell asleep for two hours.
Liz isn't sure she's ready to tackle the stairs in our house yet, so Clark setup the crib in the living room. We got the crib from Mike (and Ann) at Cappex.

We've been happy that feedings have been pretty good from the start, and it just keeps getting better! There are people here at Rush whose only job is to come help advise on techniques -- they've been great.
Liz's parents, Clark and Ann are in town. They've been a huge help. They've been helping take care of Indy at the house and have also been stopping by the hospital each day to get in a liberal amount of "cuddle time."
Liz is getting around very well. She got to shed all of her IV's and various other tethers yesterday, and she's been able to walk around and shower. The doctors expect us to be able to go home sometime tomorrow (on Saturday).
It looks like Lauren will have her mother's beautiful hair. Here are a few "hair shots."

We have our baby girl!
Boy, was it an ordeal! We checked-in on Tuesday, expecting a slow ramp-up to a delivery mid-day on Wednesday. Instead, the hospital decided that we looked ready to take a faster course to delivery! But in the end, our little girl turned out much larger than anyone expected, and that stalled Liz's ability to deliver. Finally, the decision was made to deliver by c-section. It was a tough delivery for Liz, and it required a number of pain medications in addition to the epidural. She was a trooper, though! I got to be there for it all, but it was tough to choose between spending time with Liz and our little girl.
As I'm writing this, Liz's head is starting to clear and we'll get our first real chance to meet as a family very soon. Once we meet our little girl, we intend to pick one of the names we've had in mind.
Here are some pics, including:
- Our fantastic nurses.
- The button leading to the operating room.
- A (very dreamy) Liz seeing the baby as we're leaving the OR.
- A (very dreamy) Liz in the surgery recovery area.

But we're getting close. We checked into the hospital to induce expecting a 20-hour time-table, but they've now said that Liz is progressing on her own to the point where we can expect our little baby sooner! Sometime tomorrow morning, thought it's still too early to tell.
